Hawks Talon GC Educates Atlanta Youth About Careers in Esports

ATLANTA – Earlier this afternoon, Hawks Talon GC, the official NBA 2K League affiliate of the Atlanta Hawks, hosted the first-ever ‘Careers Beyond The Console’ experience at the City of Atlanta Martin Luther King, Jr. Recreation and Aquatic Center. During the event, more than 50 kids, ages 13-16, enrolled in the City of Atlanta Department of Parks and Recreation After School Program, received an opportunity to meet each player on the Hawks Talon roster as well as hear directly from Head Coach Wesley Acuff about his role within the organization and his career path.

“We are grateful to host our first community event in a place that honors Dr. King and his legacy,” said Acuff. “This event gave us the opportunity to truly make an impact on others and educate the next generation of Atlantans on the variety of career opportunities in the esports industry.”

In a brief panel discussion moderated by Bob Rathbun, play-by-play for FOX Sports Southeast, the youth in attendance also heard from the franchise’s Director of Corporate Partnerships Stewart Tanner and Senior Coordinator of Digital Marketing Wayne Bryant.

The entire experience concluded with Hawks Talon coach and players gifting an XBOX One and a copy of NBA 2K19 to the recreation center.

Currently, Hawks Talon sits ninth out of 21 teams in the 2019 NBA 2K League regular season. Hawks Talon will return to regular season play during Week 7 with two home matchups: the first against Warriors Gaming Squad at 6 p.m. ET on Thursday, May 30, and the second against Cavs Legion GC at 6 p.m. ET on Friday, May 31.
