Hawks Talon GC Hosts Career-Focused Panel For High School Students In Georgia

SUWANEE, GA – Last week, Hawks Talon Gaming Club, the official NBA 2K League affiliate of the Atlanta Hawks, joined forces with the team’s official sports medicine provider, Northside Hospital Sports Medicine Network, on a visit to Lambert High School in Suwanee, GA to host its second installment of ‘Careers Beyond The Console.’ At the event, more than 70 high school students from the school’s membership-based esports club and esports teams were in attendance to learn about the variety of career paths available across the esports industry.
The panel, emceed by NBA 2K League Sideline Reporter Autumn Johnson, featured Hawks Talon Head Coach and Team Manager Wesley Acuff, the club’s Manager of Corporate Partnerships Michael McLendon and Chief, Northside Hospital Sports Medicine Orthopedic Surgeon, Dr. Vonda Wright. Joining them as special guests were Head of Content and Media for the NBA 2K League Matt Arden in addition to the Content and Programming Management Lead for NBA 2K League Mike Budney.
“It was incredible to have an opportunity to speak to such an engaged audience at Lambert High School,” said Acuff. “I left the panel feeling very excited about the future of esports throughout the state of Georgia.”
Discussion topics varied and included special focuses around the panelists’ career paths, the content and video production around games and concluded with details about the partnership between Hawks Talon and Northside Hospital Sports Medicine Network.
“Northside Hospital Orthopedic Institute Sports Medicine is proud to partner with and care for the athletes of both Lambert High School and Hawks Talon GC,” said Dr. Wright. “By focusing on injury prevention, effective treatment, performance and recovery, we are not only building better athletes for today but also contributing to their lifetime of health.”
The event concluded with an open question-and-answer period. Additionally, a raffle was held on site and students won a variety of items including a Raynor Gaming Chair, the club’s official gaming chair partner, a Hawks Talon-branded SCUF controller, the Official Gaming Controller of the NBA 2K League, as well as a copy of the recently-released NBA 2K20.
